Absurdity rises from terror and filth, now upon the earth as beings of white and red, only to be hung again.

Inspired by Sarah Tarlow and Zoe Dyndor’s “The Landscape of the Gibbet”, Carnival of the Gibbet ventures into the aesthetics of the damned and the act of gathering around a tortured and decayed, looking into the cross-section of capitalist power, morality, and public entertainment. Curated by Austin Kim, Opening April 27, 2024.

Press Release

Cage 1
The journey of the salesmen, townskeeper, jester, mayor, prostitute, dog, and peasant, all in attendance to form the carnival of the center room. The expressions of the twisted and an overseer of the town both loom and greets the viewer as they enter; a cage and flurry of chains anchor the room. A body left to decay, faces bleeding and ashamed, and a tool of despair, tells of a story only to be told over a table of cards and wine…

Cage 2
Shapes of deformity and a darkened commemoration call out to the public in hopes of both alienation and subjugation. The glass cage holds dry remnants of dismemberment, an exploration of an alternate time, and an invitational ritual to reflect and discard, while a remnant of Living Skin takes the corner of the room, tucked away, silently listening, observing.
